LEED Platinum Prefab Modular Home Uses Solar Thermal, Radiant Heat

October 14, 2011

A new green home in Seattle, called Alley House 2 and designed by award-winning architect David Foster, will be prefabricated in modular components and be certified LEED Platinum, making it one of the city's few prefab LEED homes, reported ConstructionDigital.com. The modular prefab approach was selected for its shorter building timeframe of approximately two months, reduction in material waste, and a closed building environment where exposure to the elements do not exist. The home will features solar hot water, PV solar, green roof, radiant under-floor heat, on-demand hot water, zero- and low-VOC finishes, and strand bamboo flooring.
