Team USA wins 2014 Water Innovation Challenge
Team USA defeated Team Australia at the Water Innovation Challenge.
The American Society of Plumbing Engineers announced that Team USA won the inaugural Water Innovation Challenge held June 3-5 during International Water Week in Singapore. Teams developed innovative solutions for emerging water and sanitation problems in Nepal and Bangladesh in a series of hands-on design challenges.
Team USA was comprised of students and professionals under the age of 26 and led by William N. Erickson, vice president of ASPE’s Research Foundation. Other members are: Judith Torres, G.E., an associate member of ASPE; Douglas Nelson, P.E., an instructor at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, who served as an adviser to the team; Nicholas Michalenko, a licensed journeyman plumber with Rida Plumbing, Worthington, Mass.; Sarah Parker, an advertising and design student at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.; and Tim Murphy, an apprentice plumber at Boulanger’s Plumbing & Heating, Easthampton, Mass. u
