The U.S. House of Representatives March 1 passed the "Employee Free Choice" bill, which would amend the National Labor Relations Act by giving unions the right to achieve recognition solely through the “card-check” process, rather than through secret ballot.
Under the card-check approach, employers must recognize unions once a majority of workers sign authorization cards saying they want to organize.
