Specialty Contractors Gain Prominence In 1990s

March 29, 2001
"Employment in construction grew almost as rapidly as the service-producing sector, although labor and supply shortages were evident late in the decade," according to an assessment of employment trends in the 1990s by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Employment in the specialty construction industry grew by nearly 33 percent from 1989 to 1999. The DOL also reported the number of workers on specialty contractor payrolls increased by more than 1 million workers. The DOL report can be found online at www.bls.gov/opub/m1r/2000/12/artlabs.htm.
