California Taps The Toilet
June 19, 2000
California officials introduced a new recycling program that will turn
toilet water into drinking water. Although the reclaimed water won't
reach faucets for five years, the $55 million project calls for 3.2 billion
gallons of wastewater to be sent each year to the Hansen Dam spreading
grounds. There it will be combined with normal groundwater so only 20
percent or less will have come from toilets.
