Sunroc Corp. To Shut Down

June 1, 2005
Water cooler and drinking fountain manufacturer Sunroc Corp. (Dover, Del.) will close its doors June 30. According to the Dover Post, Sunroc's parent company, Oasis Corp., released an unsigned statement April 18, 2005, stating the reasons for closure.

“This difficult decision was made due to economic reasons generated by intense competition in the marketplace from offshore competitors and the need to lower overall costs,” the statement noted. “We regret this decision had to be made; however, the company believes that is it necessary in order to protect the long-term viability of the organization.”

This comes after a March 1, 2005, announcement by Sunroc CEO Anthony Salamone that 70 employees would be laid off by the end of April. He wrote to Dover Mayor Stephen R. Speed on April 15 that the remaining 124 employees would be let go and the entire plant closed in June.
