Hawaii has adopted the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code as its first statewide plumbing code via State Senate Bill 795, applicable to all construction in the state of Hawaii. Herbert Kaopua Sr., business manager of United Association Local 675, worked closely with UA Local 675 lobbyist Vern Ta’a, as well as the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association and the Honolulu chapter of IAPMO to promote the formal statewide adoption of the UPC.

SB 795 goes into effect July 1, 2007, and the state’s Building Code Council is mandated to adopt and amend the most recent editions of the code within one year of the effective date.
