At this week’sGreen Opportunities Conference, hosted in Milwaukee by the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, a new website initiative was unveiled to assist industry contractors in “going green.”

GreenContractors.us is a site for MCAA, MSCA and PCA members who are interested in “the dynamic marketplace of green and sustainable construction.” The website will serve the needs of those who design, build, renovate and maintain mechanical systems for high performance buildings. In addition, it will provide news and resources for contractors who will ultimately evolve the nation’s energy infrastructure toward clean technologies.

“The benefits for the planet and for American energy independence are clear. But what may concern us is whether the business benefits exist for us as contractors,” writes MCAA President Dave Kruse, LEED AP. The association emphasized at the conference that becoming a green contractor is a change in business strategy, and there are risks in learning to work in new ways. “Through our association we can work to grow this marketplace without making costly mistakes.”

The Green Opportunities Conference featured several speakers on various green topics, and a sellout crowd of more than 250 attendees. As an added take-home value, many of the presentations can be downloaded in PDF files from ww.greencontractors.us.
