Several members of the U.S. Congress recently held a press conference highlighting the need for fire sprinklers in the wake of a fatal Nashville, Tenn., nursing home fire. Other recent fires in healthcare and college housing facilities have also claimed lives. A number of bills have been introduced to address the problem, from federal incentives for public safety investments through accelerated tax depreciation in private sector facilities (H.R. 1824), to federal grants for sprinkler installation in college and university housing (H.R. 1613, S. 620).
