Gilbane Building Co., a 130-year-old firm based in Providence, R.I., named Thomas F. Gilbane Jr. as its chairman and chief executive officer. He is the family's fourth generation to head up the company, which is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 58th largest privately held firm, with more than $2.7 billion in sales in 2002.

Current CEO, Paul Choquette Jr., will remain chairman of holding company Gilbane Inc. William J. Gilbane Jr. will become president and chief operating officer of Gilbane Building.
