PM Columnist Dan Holohon To Run Marathon To Raise Money For Scholarship Fund

Dan Holohanand his daughterKellyhave decided to run the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 24 to raise money for a vo-tech scholarship.

Dan, who turns 50 in January, is seeking sponsors for his run. He's asking his industry friends to pledge $1 for each mile he completes.

The money will go to the Dave Nelsen Scholarship Fund, which benefits young people in vo-tech schools. Dave was a good friend of Dan's and a VIP in the oil heat industry who passed away suddenly from spinal meningitis in 1998.

It was Kelly who first approached her dad and asked if he would help her train for the upcoming marathon.

"I was so very wrapped up in my business," says Holohan, who ran the Long Island Marathon in 1988. "I began to realize that what I needed was a relatively short-term physical goal to shoot for - something that had nothing to do with my business."

Dan and Kelly, who is graduating from the University of Notre Dame in May, plan to cross the finish line hand in hand. Their goal is to "finish healthy and to make a wonderful memory" while raising money for the scholar- ship.

If you're interested in pledging, please mail your name and address to Dan Holohan at 63 North Oakdale Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714. You can also e-mail him at mailroom@holohan.com or fax him at 516/579-3046.
