Today is Day 31 of our remodel -- granite
delivery day.
Measure twice, cut twice?

Granite Day Or Not?

Today is Day 31 of our remodel – granite delivery day. We’ve been looking forward to it for weeks with great anticipation. We can’t wait to see the emerald pearl granite shimmering throughout the kitchen.

The installers from Great Lakes Granite showed up on time. They clamped on some huge suction-cup handles and dragged the enormously heavy slab into the kitchen.

The new sink was ready. The cabinet drawers had been removed. The faucet was waiting nearby.

They just needed to lower the granite in place, which they did … unsuccessfully.

Unfortunately, the back cut was ¼-inch too short, which made the front edge ¼-inch too long. So back to the shop it goes, along with the smaller pieces for the side counters.  They will have to shave off a ¼-inch from the back edge and try again. At least the kitchen island got its granite. So we have one surface to use until they return next week.

The good news is our kitchen contractor, Al, has been doing odds and ends to try to keep this project moving. Trim, electrical, knobs, and lights ― it’s starting to look like a real kitchen.

Now, if we can just get the granite to fit …
