Clockwork Holds ‘Brand Dominance’ Meeting
by Steve Smith
May 1, 2008

More than 520 franchisees of Clockwork Home Services attended a Brand Dominance meeting, April 7-9, in Las Vegas.

The assorted Ben Franklin, One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning and Mister Sparky businesses heard about several new services for their businesses and celebrated a number of sales achievements throughout the show.

How the brand of the franchises does business was the theme throughout the show as various Clockwork executives laid out plans to build the company into a dominant player in residential plumbing, HVAC and electrical services.

For example, the company outlined plans for its Success Profit Network, an Internet-based series offering specific training and weekly guidance on replacement sales.

“It’s difficult for your staff to doubt what can be done, when there’s someone who’s doing it on the other end,” said Tab Hunter, president of franchise operations and who was on the cover of this magazine when he was an independent contractor before joining Clockwork.

The professional learning network will eventually offer training on service and comprehensive training for techs.

Hunter also discussed an entirely revised operations manual, OPx, designed to take some of the guesswork out of effectively running a franchise.

“This is the way brand does business,” Hunter said of the new procedures.

Other services presented at the meeting covered common human resources matters, such as payroll and background checks, and Clockwork University, a new centralized educational source for all the franchises to share.

This was the first national meeting that featured David Bloom, who joined Clockwork nine months ago as its vice president of franchise sales. Bloom said Clockwork grew its business by almost 30 percent last year and plans to grow another 35 percent this year.

Currently, there are 240 Ben Franklin franchises; 224 One Hour franchises; and 68 Mister Sparky franchises. Bloom talked about expansion plans in Canada as well as smaller markets, defined as populations of less than 100,000 people in the United States.

The Clockwork event came a couple of days after Success Group International held its fifth annual Focus on the Future April 5, also in Las Vegas, which featured presentations by former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka and Denis Waitley. In addition to Clockwork franchises, members of Plumbers’ Success International attended the meeting.
