In response to lead-free laws in California and Vermont, commercial plumbing manufacturer Speakman began converting its faucet products to lead-free in early 2009 and to date has 85 percent of the plumbing products which should meet lead-free compliance converted. The No Lead line, denoted by option “-CA,” contains less than 0.25 percent lead while still maintaining the high quality expected from Speakman products.

Speakman also has converted many of the popular sensor faucets to lead-free. “While there is still some confusion in the industry as to the requirements for sensor faucets to be certified, Speakman felt it was a necessary to have a No Lead sensor faucet product line,” said Bill Walbrandt, director of commercial plumbing for Speakman. “It is a benefit we felt our customers deserved, so they could feel confident that the products they bought and specified would meet the standard, and besides, if it doesn’t cost anymore, why not choose the No Lead alternative?”

To support ongoing efforts to educate the market about lead-free products, Speakman has created a “No Lead” sectionon the company Web site, which explains more about what it means to be lead-free, provides answers to frequently asked questions about No Lead products, and links to the No Lead product offering.
