Kohler Co. will open another retail store in the Chicago suburbs later this summer. The second Kohler Store will be located in the Abt Design Center, Glenview, Ill., and will also house a separate site for Canac, Kohler’s cabinet line.

The center will be next door to the 350,000-square-foot Abt Electronics and Appliances, a well-known Chicago retailer that’s been in business for almost 70 years.

Kohler intends to use both of the company-owned outlets as prototypes for a larger national strategy with its distributor partners. When it opened its first store, Kohler said it intended to rely on its traditional wholesalers to operate other Kohler Stores.

The plumbing manufacturer opened its first retail store at the Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago in November 2005. The 7,000-square-foot store features 300 Kohler, Kallista and Robern products.
