PMI Calls For Action on DOE Showerhead Ruling

June 17, 2010

Barbara Higgens, executive director of the Plumbing Manufacturers Institute, is frantically urging members and other interested parties to continue submitting comments/objectives to the proposed DOE rule impacting multiple showerheads. The comment period deadline ends tomorrow, Friday, June 18.

As reported earlier, the new interpretation does not ban multiple shower systems outright, but does contain language that would require manufacturers to restrict water flow to one outlet at a time and add additional valves for multiple outlet operation. Higgens said "these restrictions are still quite onerous."

Below is a PMI Action Alert explaining how to voice your opinion to the DOE.

PMI ACTION ALERT

Contact DOE to oppose the re-definition of showerheads!

U. S. Department of Energy (DOE)
Docket No. EERE-2010-BT-NOA-0016

We are urging all PMI members to write to the U.S. Department of Energy to oppose the re-definition of shower heads! The proposal is a very serious issue with far-reaching and devastating implications. The net result: eliminating multiple outlet shower systems (hand showers, body sprays, gang showers and more!) The arguments against this proposal are included in the PMI comments below, which you may adapt for your use! (Please see below in pdf form)

The Plumbing Manufacturers Institute strongly opposes this DOE action and encourages you to contact DOE immediately.  The deadline for responses is June 18, 2010…. But DO NOT Delay!

We’ve made it easy for you to take action — simply follow the instructions here and contact Stephanie Salmon (ss@wafed.com or 202/898-1444) or PMI staff with any questions.
