Incoming PHCC President Jo Wagner will conduct a seminar on starting an apprentice program at this year’s Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association 124th Annual Convention, Sept. 26-30, The Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Chicago.

The seminar will cover the basics of starting such a program — from paperwork to program graduation. Wagner, CTO, Harlingen, Texas, will be joined by Dickie McCurdy, MMM Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, Amarillo, Texas.

The national convention also includes three others seminars. All four will be held concurrently, 10:30 a.m.-12 noon, Sept. 27.

  • Lake Coulson, PHCC vice president of government relations, will moderate a panel discussion on immigration reform.

  • Kirk Alter will discuss how to identify lost time and craft delays on the jobsite and take action to increase labor productivity.

  • The Quality Service Contractors new business management coach, Lawrence Snow, will present a seminar on residential maintenance agreements.

The PHCC educational seminars are open only to PHCC convention attendees. Two other main events, however, are open to American Supply Association members as the two groups come together for Network ’06, Sept. 26-30, also at the Palmer House.

  • James Bradley, author of “Flags of Our Fathers,” will give the opening keynote address, 9-10:30 a.m., Sept. 27. Bradley’s book tells the story behind the most iconic image of World War II: six soldiers raising the American flag during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Bradley’s father, John, was one of those men. Bradley’s book has been turned into a movie directed by Clint Eastwood.

  • Oceanographer Dr. Robert D. Ballard will present the keynote address, 9-10:30 a.m., Sept. 29. Ballard has conducted more than 100 deep-sea expeditions, but is best known for finding the wreck of the Titanic in 1985.

For full PHCC convention information, log on to www.phccweb.org or call 800/533-7694. Information on Network ’06 is available at www.network06.org.
