I guess this is the third movie I’ve written about with an
outhouse. In this 1992 Western, Clint Eastwood, plays William Munny, an aging
gunfighter who takes one more job. Munny eventually teams up with the Schofield
Kid, and Munny lets the Kid shoot one of the bad men in an outhouse. The Kid,
who can barely see straight enough to shoot even at close range, realizes he
doesn’t have the taste for the violent life he desired.
While I couldn’t’ find the outhouse scene,
we’ve posted the YouTube clip of the movie’s absolutely chilling ending. Early
in the film, the Kid says he’s heard that Munny was “cold as snow and don’t
have no weak nerve nor fear.” You’ll see why.
It’s a dark movie that deals with the myths
of the Old West that established Eastwood’s long career. As a bonus clip,
here’s a scene from “High Plains Drifter,” titled “Shave and A Hot Bath,”
although The Man With No Name doesn’t get to enjoy either. The righteous outlaw
he portrays in the earlier film is exactly who he’d grow up to be in the latter
movie.
